Large and impressive tobacco bag with a beautiful combination of blue pigment, beading and quill work. The upper native-tanned hide is colored and decorated with beaded rectangular designs and long tabs attached with quilled drops. The opening is rimmed with rolled beadwork and quill drops on fringe. The middle fully-beaded section is bold red and blue geometric patterns on a white field. At the bottom is an unusual double-tiered section of decorated quill work, divided in the middle with dyed hair-stuffed tin cones. The reverse side is nicely decorated with a double lodge motif at the top portion with attached quill drops, fully beaded middle and quilled panels. Overall the bag measures 7” wide, by 40" long including the 16" fringe. Circa 1890s.

Provenance: From the Estate of Thomas W. Lorimer.
