Photochromotype engraving print "Combines". From a private collection. 8,5 x 11,6 in. (21,5 x 29,5 cm). Constant Permeke (1886 - 1952, Belgian).

Constant Permeke was painter and sculptor, considered the main representative of Flemish Expressionism. He was a member of the Sint-Martens-Latem artist colony, alongside Albert Servaes, Gustave Van de Woestijne, Gustave De Smet and Frits Van den Berghe. Influenced by the Renaissance painter Pieter Brueghel the Elder and by James Ensor, his themes focused on coastal landscapes and portraits of sailors and fishermen. During the First World War he took refuge in Great Britain, receiving the influence of Cubism and African.
