Percussion under hammer pistol, signed "N Delany" on barrel, nicely inlaid with brass showing whaling motifs and inscribed "My work 1863 Jas. Fogg Master Whaler, Martha Lee". The pistol measures 1' overall, with 7-1/8"barrel of approximately .41 cal. rifle; with simple American under hammer action, whereas the trigger works as a sear. The barrel shows engraving and bluing in a fancy pattern of which approximately 30-50% remains.There was also bluing and etching on the trigger plate, of which now traces remain, and on the tang which also shows traces. The right side of the stock shows sperm whale, pilot whale and fouled anchor, left side ofthe stock shows great whale, swordfish and sextant in nicely made old brass inlays; the large whale inlay on left grip is inscribed with the inscription referenced above.
