Percussion dueling/target pistol by Henry T. Cooper, New York. .52 caliber smoothbore. 9-1/2” medium weight octagon barrel, engraved iron triggerguard, German silver buttcap period inscribed in block letters T. K. White, 1849. The barrel is nicely gold inlaid with full maker’s name and New York. And is double gold banded at the breech and shows a v-notch rear sight and a post front sight. The lock is nicely engraved and also signed Henry T. Cooper. The gun is stocked in good quality walnut nicely checkered at the grip. The metal surfaces are good with some erosion and pinprick pitting, traces of original striping on barrel. Lock shows some case hardening drifting to silvery grey. The stock is good to very good crisp checkering, minor storage marks, and slight imperfections. The action is good, generally good overall. Would be interesting to research the identity of T. K. White, and the year 1849 is significant as the beginning of the gold rush. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
