This is a very unique Penobscot Northeastern Native American Indian carved burl ball head war club believed to date to the late 19th Century. The root burl ball club head shows a rich red ocher mineral pigment dye with excellent deep patina, indicative of its early age. The club shows a solid wood club with large burl formation that is in the rough orbital shape used as a weapon. The haft or handle has a scraped and carved area with worn patina indicative of age and use. The end of the haft shows a knob of which was most likely used to rest the hand against when used. The carved root burl ball head war club overall shows a good condition with correct patina and design. This is from the renowned Louis Cole Estate in Nashville, Tennessee. Louis Cole was a WWII veteran and avid collector of rare American History & Weapons. This piece is one of four that were collected from his estate. Measures overall 21"L with a 4.5"x5"x4.25" ball root head.
