Pennsylvania made full stock “Kentucky” style rifle with lock plate signed “James Golcher” circa about 1830s. The rifle measures 50 ½” overall with 35 ¾” medium to slightly heavy weight octagon barrel in approximately .36 caliber rifled. Thestock is checkered at the wrist and the rifle is mounted with a fancy pierced patch box secured by seven screws and the side plates shows a burst of stars engraved with two screws. The left side of the stock is inlaid with a German silver AmericanEagle with banner. The metal shows a gray to dark brown patina finish and some fresh rust and the lock is in its original flintlock configuration with a period replaced top jaw and screw. The stock shows some restorations, a crack beneath the lock with replacement of wood and refinishing. The rifle was made about the time of the Alamo and early Western expansion. Est.: $2,000-$4,000
