Pair of percussion dueling/target pistols. Signed Thomas Tyrer on barrels and locks, and Richmond VA on barrels. Circa approx. 1834. The pair measure approx. 16-1/4” overall with 10” medium to slightly heavy weight barrels of approx. .50 caliber smoothbore. The pair are half-stocked with iron triggerguard, German silver trim. The pair remain in fair to good original condition showing a deep grey to brown patina finish. One pistol is considerably better and shows approx. 50-60% striping, some light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The thumbpiece has been sheared off. Traces of case hardening going to grey brown on lock and breech. Good sharp engraving, good wood showing pronounced grain, some smoothing to the checkering, a couple of bumps, small losses, and minor imperfections. The triggerguard and buttplate show traces of original color. An original to the period brass tipped wood rammer is included, and the lesser pistol of the pair shows a grey to brown patina finish, light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. Some marks at the edges of the barrel, and slight trace of Damascus pattern. The stock show some even wear, discoloration, darkening, smoothing to the
