Pair of percussion French style dueling/ target pistols with checkered ebony stocks circa 1850s to 1860s cased with accessories. The pistols measure 17” overall with a 9 ¾” octagon barrels of approximately .45 caliber micro-grooved rifled.The styling and flat plates is very similar to the work of Le Page of Paris but no signature or proof marks are visible. The barrels show 80% to 90% of the European tobacco brown finish with a striped pattern. The mounts and locks are Frenchgray or satin finished and show some light erosion and beginning aging. The checkered ebony stocks show shell carving at the forend and good checkering with nice accent carving around the butt. There are sculptured steel cap boxes in thebutt of each pistol. The condition is good to very good overall and the actions work well. The pair are equipped with set triggers. The set is contained within a French style fitted case with full complement of accessories includingcombination tool, mallet, powder measure, bore brush, oiler and accessories. The compartment covers are retained and the exterior of the case has been lightly refinished but is good to very good. Est.: $6,000-$12,000
