Pair of ornate silver-mounted flintlock pistols with heavy gold inlaid Turkish type barrels, locks marked “Fatou a. Paris” The pistols measure 21” overall with 14-3/4” barrels of approx. .62 caliber smooth bore. The silver mounts show high relief figures of stand of arms, cannons, and military motifs. The barrels are hallmarked with a Turkish style hallmark in mideastern writing and are heavy-gold overlaid at breech tangs around the hallmark, at the barrel rings, at muzzle. The locks are nicely European engraved and show the high quality this royal French maker was noted for. The forestocks on both pistols show extensive restorations, one ramrod ferrule is a sheet-metal old replacement and both pistols are fitted with a sheet silver mideastern-made barrel band. The pistols show iron ramrods with brass heads. The metal surfaces are in good condition with some light erosion and pinprick pitting and no cleaning. The stocks are fair with many repairs, small cracks, and small losses at the edges from carry and use. A massive and well-decorated pair of chieftain’s engraved pistols with fine barrels, locks, and fancy silver mounts. Circa approx. 1810 – 1830. We feel the barrels may be 18th
