Pair of English percussion military issue sea service style pistols with tower markings dated 1849 probably issued to the British Coast Guard or Navy. The pair measure approximately 12 ¼” overall with 6” barrels of .58 caliber smoothbore, mounted with swivel ramrod’s, brass furniture and long steel belt hooks. The pair are very well marked and show a crown at the center of the lock along with V.R. and Tower Arsenal markings, the date 1849 along with crown and broad head proofs, the number 1 over 23 and a full series of proofs on left breech of barrel including broad head and inspector type proofs ( A total of at least 8). The stocks are show a cartouche with crown and broad head in a circle on the lower portion of each stock on the right side near the butt and there are many small proofs and both pistol show a large number 2 in this area. The pair are in untouched and uncleaned original condition out of the attic condition with a mellow patina and very good metal surfaces. The stocks are good to very good with some small storage marks, dings, slight mars but are at least very good overall and completely untouched and full original dimensions. The stock markings are very legible. This pair of pistols are a true pair as they are dated and inspected with the same markings. Est.: $3,000 -$6,000.
