Pair of English Georgian era flintlock pistols with brass frames and turned canon barrels. Signed Bumford, London. The pair measure approx. 11-1/4” overall with 6-1/4” barrels. The barrels show four stages withturned rings and canon muzzles. The barrels show British proofs and “IB” (Bumford) proof. The pair show hallmarked sterling buttcaps which we would date to approx. 1770s. The stocks are of a different form than normalBritish pistols and have a slightly different angle. Could be American restocked during the period of use. The original small parts are retained and are in their original flintlock configuration. The condition isvery good overall with no cleaning and polishing, and the mounts are in a natural state and not polished out. The barrels show Irish registration marks, “1KS460” and “2KS460”. It is entirely possible that theywere used in the American Revolution and carried back across the pond to Ireland at a later date where they would have had to be registered. The wood is good and should be tested as they have a definite American look.
