Pair of Eastern European double-barrel flintlock pistols circa approx. 1790-1810. Probably Austrian, or possibly Russian in the ‘Empire Style’. The pair measure 11-1/2” overall with 6-1/2” barrels of approx. .56caliber smoothbore. The pair are iron mounted and show deeply cut engraving, almost chiseled. The engraving shows florals along with double-headed eagles on triggerguard with a floral crown. There are no proofs andno maker’s name. The pair are nicely stocked in good quality walnut. The metal surfaces are good to very good, some light cleaning. The stocks are also very good plus. The ramrod tips have broken and were probablyhorn and the wood ramrods remain. The engraving has a decidedly Russian look although usually Russian arms would show crowns on the eagles. The pistols are in their original flintlock configuration, andretain their original hammers, topjaws, screws, etc. Double pairs of flints are rarely encountered in the Napoleonic era. Note: On close inspection a maker’s cartouche is found behind the pans in a small stamp
