Pair of Dutch or Flemish flintlock horseman's pistols, circa 1700-1740, brass locks and mounts, signed in small makers cartouche beneath frizzen showing 3 small intertwined block letters "C N B". The pair measure 21"overall with 13-1/2" barrels of .62 cal. smooth bore. The bulbous butts show a grotesque mask with scalloping around edges. The wrists show pierced plaques, the side plates are also pierced and show serpentsmasks and intertwining scrolls in the artful manner of early 18th century. The barrels show brass overlay on tangs, brass inlay in bands at breech, nice fluting to the barrels with a brass ring at muzzles. Two brasstipped ramrods of the period are included, which may be original. The pistols are nicely stocked in figured walnut and show quality carving, molding, fluting and early styling. The pair are in their originalflintlock configuration with correct hammers, frizzens and small parts. The pair are in out-of-the-attic uncleaned very good+ condition, with great patina to the mounts and locks, sharp metal surfaces and are
