Pair of American dueling pistols converted from Flintlock to percussion by W. Booth of Philadelphia, circa approx. 1800. .58 caliber smoothbore, cased with accessories. The pair measure approx. 16” overall with 10” medium to slightly heavy weight octagon barrels. They are full stocked to the muzzles and show nicely checkered grips with flattened edges similar to premium London makers. The pistols show high quality engraved mounts with beautifully engraved tangs, gond line a breech and booth cartouche in gold at the breech end of the barrel. The pistols show London maker’s proofs, set triggers, and scroll trigger guards. The pair remain in good to very original condition showing considerable original brown on the barrels drifting to patina, with some scattered pinprick pitting , mostly in the breech area. The pair are beautifully converted to percussion and the locks and hammers show most of their period case hardened finish. One stock is in very good condition with sharp checkering, some minor losses around the bottom edge of the lock, some small scratches, normal wear, and a spliced in expertly done repair to the forend.
