PROJECT GUN -- U.S./Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag Bolt-Action Box Magazine Rifle was the first smokeless powder repeating firearm adopted by the United States. It was named for its inventors, Norwegian Royal Artillery officer Ole Hermann Johannes Krag and civilian Erik Jorgensen. The Model 1898 Krag saw action in the hands of U.S. troops during the Philippine-American War. Only 5,001 Model 1898 carbines were manufactured by Springfield Armory.
