Overland Service Dealer Porcelain Sign 1900-1920's
This is an original early Overland Service Genuine Parts porcelain enamel double sided advertising dealer sign. The sign shows an oval design with heavy porcelain enamel over metal construction in blue, red, and white. The Overland Automobile Company was founded in 1903 by Claude Cox an employee of Standard Wheel Company. In 1908, Overland Motors was purchased by John North Willys and in 1912, it was renamed Willys-Overland Motor Company. From 1912 to 1918 Willys was the second largest producer of automobiles in the US after Ford Motor Company. Later in 1926 Willys-Overland introduced a line of cars named Willys-Overlan Whippet. Willys-Overland is responsible for the birth of the general purpose and military use "Jeep". This is truly an excellent authentic original Overland Service sign and a piece of automotive and Jeep history. The sign has some porcelain loss, but overall displays very well. Measures overall 30"x40". Willys, Jeep, Overland, Knight, Whippet, Chrystler, Gas & Oil, Automobile.
