Outstanding U.S. Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Carbine

This is an excellent example of a rarely encountered Winchester Model 94 with U.S. property markings manufactured in 1940. In addition to the standard markings on each side of the barrel at the breech end, the ordnance bomb proof is marked on the top of the barrel at the breech directly above the Winchester oval proof (oval proof also on the receiver), on the bottom of the receiver and on the lower left side preceded by a large "U.S.". "U.S. PROPERTY" on the upper left rear and "W.L.S." vertically on the right front of the receiver. The bottom of the lever assembly and buttplate tang are marked "174". The carbine is equipped with a ramped front sight and adjustable rear buckhorn sight. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm marked "U.S." on the upper right rear and straight grip stock marked "U.S." on the top of the comb directly ahead of the tang and "W.L.S." stamped directly behind the lower tang. These U.S. marked Model 1894 Carbines are always found in worn condition and are among the rarest and most desirable of all U.S. issued Winchester long arms.

Excellent. The barrel and magazine retain 98% of the original blue finish with some minor spotting on the barrel and a few mild handling marks. The receiver and lever retain 97% blue finish thinning to a brown patina and a patch of smooth gray on the lever assembly. The buttplate retains 20% blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The wood is also excellent, with the exception of a few gouges on the underside of the forearm and a minor pressure dent on the underside of the buttstock, along with some minor scratches and a few minor dings. All markings are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
