Delivered between 28 May 1909 and 13 September 1911, the Model 1909 revolvers were almost entirely shipped to the Philippines, where they filled the same niche as the Colt 1878/1902 revolvers, giving soldiers the firepower they needed to deal with the Moros at close range. Blade front and notch rear sights, with the two line Hartford address and patent dates (1884, 1900, 1905) on top of the barrel, "COLT D.A. 45" on the left side and "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and "P R.A.C." on the underside. The left side of the frame has the Rampant Colt trademark surrounded by a stylized "C", with "F.B." and "R.A.C." inspector initials on the right. The butt is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1909" ahead of the lanyard loop and "No./33/641" behind it. All of the serial numbers match. Smooth two piece grips, with "R.A.C." stamped on the undersides.
BBL: 5 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Long Colt
Finish: blue

Condition: Excellent overall, with 95% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish. A brown patina is forming on the back strap, bright edge wear and some minor patches of surface discoloration and light pitting overall. The grips are in excellent condition with some pressure dents. Mechanically excellent. As almost all of the Model 1909 revolvers saw combat duty in a tropical country that suffers from monsoon seasons, top-condition examples like this one are very rare.
