This Colt Model 1862 Police revolver was manufactured in 1863. The revolver has the Colt high polish blue finish on the barrel and fluted five-shot cylinder color casehardened loading lever, frame and hammer, silver-plated trigger guard and back strap and varnished, one-piece walnut grip. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" in one line. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. "PAT.SEPT.10th 1850" is stamped in one cylinder flute and "36 Cal" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The full serial number "20755" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match. The rosewood case has a scalloped silver plate inlaid in the lid. The interior is lined with red felt and has five compartments. The case contains a full set of accessories that include: (1) a 250 cap tin of Eley Bros., percussion caps with green label and blue wrapper, (2) "COLTS/PATENT" Eagle and Shield Colt Police Model powder flask with fixed charger, niter blue spring, gold-plated top and brown lacquer body, (3) blue iron double cavity straight leg bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" in two lines on the sprue cutter and "36B" on the right block and (4) sealed package of five American Powder Co., "Combustible Envelope Cartridges" for "Police Pistols".

Gauge: 36 percussion
Finish: blue/casehardened

Condition: Very fine. The revolver retains 60% plus of the original blue finish. The finish on the sides of the barrel has flaked to a dark patina and shows some surface discoloration. There are some minor takedown marks around the wedge slot. The cylinder has most of the high polish blue finish intact; the percussion nipples have moderate flash pitting. The loading lever, frame and hammer have 85% plus of the original casehardened finish with fiery case colors. Most of the tarnished silver-plated finish remains on the trigger guard and back strap. The grip is excellent with nearly all of the piano finish varnish and only minor handling wear. The barrel, frame and cylinder markings are sharp. The cylinder does not turn when the hammer is cocked. The case is fine; the lid shows minor handling wear and has two hairline cracks. The lining on the case bottom is faded and torn in several places. The lid lining has some discoloration from contact with the revolver cylinder. The cap tin is fair with damage to the wrapping and label. The powder flask is fine and retains 70% of the gold plated, niter blue and brown lacquer finish. The bullet mold is excellent and retains 70% of the blue finish with crisp markings. The repoduction cartridge packet is good. This is a fine example of a factory cased Colt Model 1862 Police revolver with original accessories.
