Outstanding Rare Early Model Factory Engraved Remington Over/Under Double Barrel Derringer with Hols
This is a rare Type I, early production example of an extensively factory engraved Remington over/under double barrel derringer. Around 2000 of the Type I derringers were produced. It is correctly configured without the extractor. The center barrel rib has the correct early markings: "ELLIOT'S PATENT DEC. 12, 1865" on the left side, "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y." on the right side. As stated, the derringer features a factory engraving. The sides of the upper barrel feature a floral type engraving, with the solid upper barrel rib having a leaf type engraving across the top. The sides of the frame are adorned with a scroll engraving on a punch dot background with a floral and scroll engraving flanked by a dot and line border motif. The hammer also features a scroll engraving. Matching serial number on the frame and barrels. Fitted with rosewood grips. Complete with an original leather holster. It is believed there are only six known examples of Type I factory engraved over/under Remington's, and this is the finest known.
