This is an excellent original example of a postwar commercial Government Model pistol manufactured in 1946. At this time many parts used were left over military contract manufacture, and some variation and combination of parts can be found. The left side of the slide is marked with the one line address and the caliber designation on the right side followed by the Rampant Colt. Interestingly a "P" military firing proof remains on the top ahead of the rear sight. The "VP" proof is marked on the side of the trigger guard bow with a "49" marked on the opposite side. The right side of the frame is marked, "GOVERNMENT MODEL" over the "C" prefix serial number. This example has a left over military barrel marked on the lower left chamber above the lug "COLT 45 AUTO" with a "P" proof on the left lug, and with the port area polished bright. It has a narrow checkered hammer, stamped checkered trigger, checkered thumb safety, serrated slide release, arched mainspring housing serrated with seven ribs and retaining the lanyard loop, and has Colt plastic grips with the large reinforcing ring for the screw holes. Complete with an unmarked blued magazine.
