This is a beautiful example of a special order Winchester Model 1886, takedown rifle that is chambered in the "New" 33 WCF cartridge. This new cartridge was developed in 1902 and ushered in the era of smokeless cartridges. It is basically a necked down 45-70 that provided a much higher velocity and was very popular in the Winchester 1886 rifles at this time. This specific example has several special order features such as: 1) it is a takedown model, that allowed the rifle to be stored in a short leather carrying case; 2) rubber buttplate on a straight grip, shotgun buttstock; 3) it has a checkered stock (grip area) and forend; 4) it has a special order Lyman Ivory bead front sight mounted on a short ramp type base, along with a Lyman tang mounted rear sight, as well as the standard, semi-buckhorn sporting rear sight. This rifle was actually manufactured/shipped in August 1906 with all features verified via the Winchester factory letter, dated May 2011. The top of the barrel is marked in two line; "MANUFACTURE BY THE / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.-" and on the left side behind the rear sight it is marked in two lines; "NICKEL STEEL BARREL/ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" with the caliber markings of "33 W.C.F." at the breech. The top of the receiver and barrel at the breech are stamped with the oval "WP" Winchester firing proof. The lower tang is marked with the two line, two patent dates (1884 and 1885) with the serial number "136742" at the end of the tang. The takedown mechanism on the front of the magazine tube, has the correct patent date markings.

The stock and forend also retain 99% of their original factory varnish, with only a few, very minor handling marks on the lower left side/toe area of the buttstock. The checkering is also in excellent condition with no dings or dents, showing just nice original Winchester factory checkering.
