Manufacturer: Colt Model: Shooting Master
Manufactured in 1936. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the left side is marked "COLT SHOOTING MASTER .38". The left side of the frame is marked with the Rampant Colt and the matching serial number is on the frame and crane. Elevation adjustable blade front sight and windage adjustable rear sight. Checkered grip straps and fitted with checkered walnut grips with silver Colt medallions. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, 6 inch barrel and blue finish with grips as "Not Listed", that it was sold to John Oberlies of Dayton, Ohio and shipped as 1 to Shapleigh Hardware Company, St Louis, Missouri on December 31, 1936. John Oberlies was a Gunsmith in Dayton, Ohio, a business he stared repairing and improving his own guns. He made custom stocks and gun parts using what by todays standards would be antiquated equipment such as a hand forge for color hardening actions, heat treating and tempering of items and foot powered lathe. Included with the revolver is a copy of an article from a "The Gun Report" magazine with an article featuring him. Complete with an original maroon pebble grain box with gold "COLT/Shooting Master" on the lid and wooden handled cleaning rod. The inside of the lid is marked in pencil "341808/38/c 6"/SB".
