Outstanding Colt Artillery Model Single Action Revolver with Custer period frame, #5536, .45 Colt cal., 5-1/2'' barrel, blue and case hardened finish, cartouched one-piece walnut grips, with factory letter verifying all features. The original Cavalry revolver, #5536, originated within Lot 6, one of the prime lots of which the U.S. 7th Cavalry revolvers were drawn. The original U.S. Cavalry revolver was recalled by the Ordnance Dept. in 1893 and were sent to Colt for refurbishment, and was reissued in its original configuration to the New York State Militia. During the period 1900-1903 this revolver was returned to Colt and reconfigured as an Artillery model with all low-numbered mixed parts. Condition is excellent. Kopec states that ''Judging from the amount of original blue finish remaining within the chambers of this revolver's cylinder and within its bore, this revolver has not been fired appreciably after its 1903 refurbishing.'' Est.: $15,000-$20,000. (Antique)
