Manufactured from 1850 to 1851, this is a scaled down version of a Mass. Arms Dragoon Model revolver which is also referred to as the Pocket Model with a total production of around 1,000. The top strap is marked "MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS" and the lock is marked "WESSON'S & LEAVITT'S PATENT." The cylinder stop plate is marked "WESSON PATENT/AUG 28, 1849" with the rear of the etched cylinder marked "LEAVITT'S PATENT APRIL 29, 1837." There is a broad scroll engraving on the lock, frame and hammer. The serial number is on the front of the frame with "258" on the barrel lug and cylinder pin. Blue barrel and cylinder, silver plated brass trigger guard and backstrap, casehardened frame and fitted with two piece grips. In a partitioned wooden case lined in maroon velvet with the following accessories: key, double face embossed powder flask, lead balls, brass loading tool and factory two cavity brass bullet mold marked "MASS. ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS".

Condition: Near excellent overall. The barrel retains 60% plus bright original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina (most of the finish remaining on the barrel latch). The cylinder has a smooth brown patina with most of the etching remaining. There is most of the darkened original case colors remaining on the frame. The trigger guard and backstrap retain nearly 97% silvered out original plating. The grip is excellent with some bottom edge wear and scattered minor dings. The engraving is clear. Mechanically fine. The case is very fine with some mild handling marks. The lining shows some minor wear. The accessories are very fine.
