Ornate silver mounted presentation officers sword marked Tiffany and Company on scabbard and blade with scabbard inscribed “Presented to Capt. R.B. Fairchild, by Company B, 8th Regiment C. N. G. October 15, 1868. The pommel is capped by an ornate cast silver Eagle and the grip is cast and engraved silver also. The guard is pierced and gold plated. The scabbard is mounted in cast silver with fine engraved panels of flags, stands of arms, florals, Roman motifs and other engraved decorations. The scabbard shows a light gold gilt. The blade is in fine to near excellent condition with most of its original bright polish and retaining nearly all its gold in panel with fancy U.S. and scroll borders along with Tiffany logo. The sword blade is marked by Collins on ricasso and dated 1862 and was left in stock until the later presentation or perhaps the regiment sent Tiffany the officers blade from Civil War to be memorialized in this fancy and presentation inscribed mounting. The sword remains in fine to near excellent condition with just a few minor storage type dings and mars to scabbard with just slight normal aging. Est.: $20,000-$40,000.
