Ornate silver inlaid pocket pistol converted from flintlock to percussion signed “Ross, Edinburgh”. The pistol measures approximately 5 ¾” overall with a 1 ½” turn-off screw barrel. The rounded brass frame is nicely engraved and well signed. The hammer is beautifully engraved to match the engraving on the pistol and possibly converted by the original maker. The barrel shows some wrench marks and traces of original blue finish. The stock is finely silver wire and plaque inlaid with engraving upon the plaques and a silver Lions head butt cap. The plaque inlaid at wrist shows a man holding a club over his right shoulder which is a crest of some type. The silver wire inlays in the stock are 95% intact with some slight losses. We would date this pistol which is serial numbered 42 and well proofed at about 1780 and converted about 1830. Est.: $900-$1,800.
