Ornate flintlock pistol, probably Baltic, circa late 18th to mid-19th century. The pistol measures 18-1/2" overall, with 12" barrel, of approximately .60 cal. smooth bore. The pistol is full stocked to themuzzle; the barrel and lock are very nicely deep relief chiseled with florals, odd mermaid-type figures, stylized stand of arms, scrolls, and what looks like a monkey on the hammer. The metal surfaces are in very good condition and crisp, and the lock retains all correct small parts. The pan shows traces of gold lining; the stock is silver wire inlaid with silver band and border work and small engraved plaques. The work is very good quality and 85% intact, with a couple of small plaques missing and a small amount of wire lost. There are engraved silver border inlays extending down each side of the barrel, around the tang, back of the lock,and around the sideplate. The steel trigger guard and sideplate are nicely silver inlaid, as is the rear ramrod thimble. The butt cap is cast silver with stylized scrolls and stands of arms. The lock is working, the
