Original pen and ink on paper signed lower right Remington and inscribed “How can it’s Merry be bad----- Xmas 1902”. The artwork measures approximately 3.5” x 4.25” and is nicely framed and shows only slight discoloration. The image shows a young Remington drawing with a man looking over his shoulder. The reverse of the artwork is inscribed “original pen and ink” Christmas card sent by Frederic Remington to Lewis Shipman the playwright who dramatized Remington’s book. John Ermine of this Yellowstone picture is a character of John Shipman’s writing with John Ermine standing over Remington. The lower right of paper backing is inscribed in the hand of John S. Dumont well-known pre-war New England collector for whose estate we sold part of his art collection a few years ago. Keith and Lori Candee Collection. Est.: $1,500 -$3,000.
