Original patent drawing dated May 14th, 1867, measuring 19-1/2” by approx. 12-1/4”. Patent #64765. From J. Hawkins for gun rest, illustrating a rifle with folding rest mounted near end of muzzle. Lower right shows J. Hawkins signature by his attorney, H. Howsoy. Witnessed by William Albert Steel and John Parker. The Hawkins family were known for their classic heavy-barrel American pains rifles, and this is the only patent we knowto have been granted to the Hawkins clan. : Bill Williamson Collection, who purchased the original Colt patent papers and other papers relating to historical American arms and bowie knives when sold by the U.
