Original oil painting on artist board signed lower left William Posey Silva done in the California pleinair style. Measures approximately 12” x 15” nicely framed. Silva was born in 1859 and died in 1948. He moved to California in 1913. He spent his early career in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was known as the finest artist at the turn-of-the-century. In 1907 he enrolled at the Academy Julian in Paris and was a student of Laurens. In 1909 he had an exhibition in Paris and later that year returned to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he achieved great fame winning a silver medal at the exposition in Knoxville. He moved to Washington D.C. for a short time and was active in the society of Washington artists. He moved to California in 1913 and built a studio on Carmelita Street in the sand dunes and became a member of the California Art Club among many other prestigious organizations. Est.: $1,000-$3,000.
