Original oil painting on artist board showing cowboy on horseback twirling lasso, approximately 18-3/4" x 10", signed lower right H. W. Hansen. Hansen was a very well recognized artist at the turn of the century, who was based in San Francisco, and produced illustrative western art for beer companies, magazines, periodicals, etc. His horses with bulging eyes were a trademark, and he was a contemporary and friend to MaynardDixon and William Keith. He had his first exhibition in 1901; in 1903 he traveled to the Crow Reservation in Montana and he continued to paint and travel in the west until his death in 1924. He was trained atthe Art Institute of Chicago, and his works are sought by collectors and museums throughout the world. His artworks have fetched up to $80,000 at auction, and the cover piece for his book sold privately formore than $150,000 a decade ago. The artwork is in good condition, needing just a slight cleaning, and is nicely framed with a carved and gilded wood frame. Est.: $2,000-$4,000
