Original flintlock Kentucky rifle made in Western Pennsylvania of good-quality showing fancy engraved and pierced patch box with small silver escutcheons and inlays. The rifle measures 57” overall with 42” octagon barrel of medium weight in .42 to .44 caliber rifled. The barrel and lock showing a pleasing dark matching patina with dried oil and no cleaning. The lock retains its original hammer, frizzen spring, top jaw and small parts. The stock shows a good fiddleback or tiger striped grain and is well made with molding around a silver escutcheons and forend with some light incised carving around cheek piece and trigger guard as decorations. The inlay in the cheek piece and engraving on side plate and mounts are by the same hand in a light floral pattern similar to the engraving on the patch box. The wood is in good condition showing some normal aging and minor losses but is generally very good overall for its age which we would date about 1820-1830’s. The barrel is secured by 4 pin’s which enter the stock from the left side. The stock shows just some minor well-done repairs with no major replacements of wood. The lock is secured by 2 screws and the rifle shows a single trigger. Est.: $5,000 -$10,000
