Original engraved 1860 Henry rifle, .44 Henry rimfire, blue and plated finish, period Victorian scroll carved stock, remnant of an old inscription on top of frame, serial #9592. The barrel shows faint traces oforiginal blue mixed in with some browning patina, some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting, good sharp barrel address, some even wear from carry and use, some slight staining. The frame is nicely engraved in typical factory style motif by Samuel Hoggson with pointing dog on left sideplate surrounded by scrolls, similar to example pictured on page 25, The Book of Winchester Engraving, and page 37, Winchester Engravingas well as several other guns in this range. The top of the frame shows the faint remnant of an original inscription but is illegible except the date 1871. A 4-page detailed letter from author R.L. Wilson accompaniesthe rifle and states ‘to be pictured in the forthcoming revised edition, Winchester Engraving’ and states the rifle is from an old collection. Mr. Wilson states genuine examples of engraved Henry’s are quite rare
