Original black and white engrieze of U.S. Cavalry Sergeant holding a Springfield Trapdoor carbine in full uniform, showing Springfield hunting knife, signed by prominent Western artist Joe Grandee, dated 1966; approx. 24” x 18”, framed and matted,shows slight discoloration, fading and age; could use a cleaning. Joe Grandee was one of the most famous Western artists of the 1960’s-70’s, now deceased. His works were prominently featured in art publications, museums and prominentcollections, including the White House during the Nixon administration. Mr. Grandee was a student of the Old West who loved the Cavalry and he personally collected frontier artifacts and arms which he studied and used in his authenticpaintings and illustrations.
