Original Oil on Canvas by Karyn Janowski
Portrait of girl with her dog, signed on back of canvas. Image measures 50"x26" in silver and black shadowbox frame. Part of the Pfizer Corporation collection Karyn Janowski was educated at the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Art (cum laude). Professor Robert Grilley was a significant influence on the artist, who learned figure rendering through his classes at the university. In 1979, under the direction of Chicago muralist Caryl Yasko, Karyn produced preliminary drawings and undertook the surface preparation and painting of the Whitewater Historical Mural in Whitewater, Wisconsin. She has been involved in the design and drawing of the Mifflin Street Community Co-op Mural in Madison, in conjunction with The Chicago Public Art Group(1987); and in the Wisconsin Children's Theatre (Gordon Hedahl), as Scenic Designer and Painter. Janowski also founded and coordinated The Warehouse Studio for visual artists and musicians in 1985. She was involved, as an artist, in multimedia performances from 1979-1985, and has been a figurative painter from 1976 to the present. Most recently, she has been honored to be an adjudicator for the California Alliance for Arts Education's yearly Emerging Young Artist scholarship program. Janowski's paintings explore the way figures and objects exist in space; i.e., the idea that all matter is inter-connected, and that matter never disappears, it changes form. There is also a strong element of mood (psychological), dependant on the viewer's interpretation. -Ask Art
