Original Browning single shot rifle made by John M. Browning of Ogden, Utah, .45-70 cal., 30" medium to heavy weight octagon barrel, serial #212. The barrel is stamped "J. M. Browning Ogden. UT. pat. oct. 7. 79" and "45" indicating caliber. These single shot rifles preceded the High Wall Winchester and very few were manufactured, probably only on special order before Winchester bought the rights. The rifles actually differ fromtheir Winchester descendents in the fact that the tang is integral with the breech and not removable. This is the most noticeable variation; however the Browning rifles are considerably different when compared closely. The rifle remains in original very good condition with 75-85% original blue on barrel, naturally toning and aging with some light erosion, staining and pinprick pitting just starting. The frame and butt plate have gone to a brownish patina and also show some erosion, staining and natural age with no cleaning whatsoever. The stocks are good with even wear, small loss to the butt plate, some slight cracks but generally good to
