One of the lowest known serial numbered Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifles, #24 is in .45-70 caliber with a 26” round barrel, full length loading tube, standard trigger, wood stocks with crescent iron butt plate and an 1876 adjustableladder rear sight that appears to have been with this gun for a lifetime. The rifle is in overall very good condition with an overall pleasing brown patina, several areas of old pitting from honest use, good bore, crisp action, good markings andoverall good wood with scattered old minor mars and scratches from carry and storage, a couple old losses on the left side of the butt stock at the front of the wrist against the rear of the receiver, a hairline crack of about an inch and ahalf on the right side of the wrist of the butt stock in the opposing area by the rear of the receiver and a slight ding on the underside of the loading tube about a third of the way back from the muzzle. We would be surprised if this gun was not a product of the first couple of days of manufacture of the Model 1886 utilizing the John Browning locking bolt design and strengthened action. A chance for the serious Winchester collector to obtain one of the first of these guns
