Northwest Coast Indian trade gun marked Barnet, London, 1883. Tombstone and fox marking on rear of lockplate. Serpentine sideplate secured by three screws. Iron triggerguard, brass buttplate, inlaid withoriginal to the period brass tacks. The gun measures 52” overall with 36” barrel, approx. .60 caliber. The metal surfaces show a heavy brown to black patina with light to slightly heavy scattered pitting and erosion, good markings on the lock. Hammer shows old forged period repairs. The stock shows some breaks and losses around the top of the lock and some weathering and is dried out from being carried and used. The stock also showssome small losses around the toe and top of buttplate. Several tacks have been lost or removed and show iron shafts where the heads broke off. Many of the tacks are worn into the gun, it is our opinion that they areoriginal to the period Indian tacks. Provenance: James Gordon collection, author of Great Gunmakers for the Early West. Est: $2,500 - $5,000
