This is an expertly carved totem bowl from the Northwest Coast American Indians dating to circa early 1900. The bowl, which is most likely from the Haida or Tlingit peoples, shows a winged raven totem carved and incised immense details along with inlaid carved abalone around the rim of the bowl, at the sides and the nose and eyes of the head, totaling 32 pieces. The inside of the bowl is wonderfully hand hewn and scrapped along with the most immense detail of traditional geometric totem patterns. The piece has a nice even patina across the entire surface and is signed at the bottom, “G. MORRISON”. The piece shows a very nice well-preserved condition with no major damage, or chips. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery. Overall measures 20.5”L x 6”W x 6.5”H.
