Northern Plains Indian Trade Knife Collection
For your consideration in this lot is a collection of early Northern Plains Indian trade knives, originating from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. The knives in this collection were typically traded to the Northern Plains Indians in the 19th Century. This collection consists of three marked trade knives. The knives show steel blades with hard wood grips. The first knife in this collection shows a wood handle and a sheep's foot design steel blade that sets into a groove in the wood and is held in by three pins. It is stamped "Flockton Tompkin & Co Sheffield" on the blade. The last two knives are "L Wilson Sheffield England" made knives. The smaller knife is stamped "hand forged" and shows a light colored wood handle with four pins securing the blade. The handle on this knife has a chip missing on the side showing the pins; the blade is in good condition for age and use. The larger of the two knives shows “L Wilson Sheffield England" stamped on the blade, but it is partially worn with age and use. The hardwood grip is secured with five pins. All knives show a nice patina on the metal and wear to the handle, appropriate for its age and use. These knives measure 8.75", 8.75", and 13" in overall length.
