The lot features a wonderfully beaded hide doll from the Northern Plains Native American Indians. The piece, which is likely Sioux or Crow, show an Indian tanned hide and trade clothe canvas construction with fabulous glass trade seed beadwork. The beadwork, which is all period correct shows a typical women’s dress with beaded cape at the shoulders, beaded accents at the hips and a beaded strip at the base. The piece also shows a fully beaded belt, fully beaded set of “buffalo track or buffalo tongue” moccasins and beaded earrings. The piece shows a nice yellow ocher mineral dye and fine hand cut fringe with the head being of Buffalo Bison hide and hair. The beadwork shows greasy blue white hearts, butterscotch yellow, medium green, greasy yellow and cobalt. The doll is in very good condition for its 19th Century age. Measures overall 11.5”L by 5.75”W.
