North & Judd Silver Mounted Spurs c. 1878-1926
Featured in this lot is this North & Judd silver mounted spurs, circa 1878 - 1926. The spurs show iron construction, featuring mounted silver textured with scales and silver mounting to the drop shank. The rowel shows ten star rowels. The Anchor brand is stamped on bits and spurs, denoting products made by North and Judd Manufacturing Company of Connecticut. The Anchor Brand dates back to 1878, but the company’s roots date back to the early 19th century. Hubert F. North and Lorin J. Judd were the names behind the 1863 incorporation of North and Judd Manufacturing Company that prospered enough to employ 500 people by 1900 and 1,200 by 1925. During the Spanish American War and World War I, North and Judd supplied great quantities of Anchor Brand products. After the war, the firm continued to flourish and, in 1919, it began buying other manufacturers, the most noteworthy of which was their competitor, the Buermann Company in 1926. The condition of these spurs is good, showing oxidation and patina consistent with the age of the spurs. The measurements of these spurs are 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 1 3/4".
