Often referred to as the "Baby Russian", this top-break, auto ejecting revolver is chambered for the Smith & Wesson 38 centerfire cartridge and was manufactured circa 1876-1877. The revolver was silver plated with a gold guild over the top. Since Smith and Wesson did so much of their engraving outside of the factory it is hard to say if this gun would letter. The engraving pattern is a typical Nimschke pattern of decorative floral scrolls on the barrel and frame. The back strap has a double line border. The left side of the frame exhibits well done conquistador in an oval panel scene probably excited by the master himself. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, barrel latch, top strap under the latch and rear face of the cylinder. Five round cylinder, pinned blade front sight, notch rear sight, and fitted with smooth pearl grips.
