This is a wonderful pipe tomahawk with fully beaded drop from the Nez Perce Native American Indians of Idaho and dating to circa 1880’s. The tomahawk features a brass head with a small blade having a double chevron eyelet hole and large bowl. The tomahawk head shows a fine roller engraved accent on the blade with a mellow patina having spots of dark green. The pipe tomahawk shows a solid wood haft which is adorned with brass trade tack design and hot file branding. At the end of the grip shows the excellent fully beaded drop tied on with Indian tanned hide ties having early brass trade beads. The beaded drop is most likely a later addition, but it itself is stull an early authentic example and accents the tomahawk nicely. The beaded drop has an Indian tanned hide construction with long hand cut fringe and early glass trade seed beadwork in a traditional geometric design with bead colors such as sky padre light blue, semi-transparent dark blue, Cheyenne pink, black, chalk white, greasy yellow, semi-transparent dark red, and semi-transparent green. The entire tomahawk shows a nice smooth patina indicative of its early age and use. This is from the former collection of Tom Hardy in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Measures overall . The head measures 8”L.
