Introduced in 1937 and revised in 1939, the Order of the German Eagle was chiefly for issue to non-Germans, especially foreign diplomatic agents and leaders, both as tokens of esteem and as a reward for services provided. The 'with Swords' variant was specifically for recipients who were also members of the military. Based around a white enamel filled Maltese cross, 1 3/4 inches wide, with Nazi Eagles between the arms holding white enamel filled swastika wreathes, a crossed pair of swords on the front and a fan-shaped extension on top attached to a red, white and black pin backed ribbon. With a red leatherette case marked in gold "Deutscher Adlerorden/V.Klasse mit Schwerten" inside the lid.
