Introduced in 1937, the Order of the German Eagle was chiefly for issue to non-Germans, especially foreign diplomatic agents and leaders, both as tokens of esteem and as a reward for services provided. Known recipients include Henry Ford, Charles Lindbergh and a number of world leaders. Based around a white enamel filled Maltese cross, 1 7/8 inches wide, with Nazi Eagles between the arms holding white enamel filled swastika wreathes. The barrel hinged pin is marked "900 21". In a red leatherette presentation case, marked in gold "Verdienstkreuz II.Stufe/des/Ordens vom Deutschen Adler" inside the lid.
