This is a nice example of an original, early 1937 production luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory. In the "t" block of serial numbers in 1937, the Mauser factory switched to an all salt blued finish, to speed up pistol production. Consequently this pistol is in that that last block of serial numbers, that retained the straw colored various small parts. The top of the chamber is dated 1937 and it has the "S/ 42" code marking on the front toggle. It has the early style "Eagle/ 63" Waffenamt proofs on the barrel extension and underside of the barrel. There is a single eagle firing proof also on the barrel extension, barrel and breechblock. "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" on the upper safety area and extractor, respectively. Rust blued metal finish and checkered walnut grips. Complete with one WWII luger magazine with the unmarked blued magazine body with the aluminum base that is marked "1234/t/eagel 63" proofmark.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw colors
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 440t
Condition: Very fine as partially refinished (cold blue on holster wear points) with 95% plus of the original WWII blued finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall. The various small parts retain 70% of their straw colors overall with slightly less finish on the trigger itself. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with the right side showing several light pressure dents on the checkering and two notches cut across the center section of the grip. The pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above. A very nice example of a early 1937 dated luger that still retains its original straw colored small parts.
