This is a very nice example of an early 1936 production luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory with the rust blued and straw colored small parts. This was the third year of regular Mauser luger production and the first production year to use the full date on top of the chamber area in lieu of the secret letter/date code markings. Although a standard production model this series of luger is very difficult to find in original unaltered condition as they saw considerable use during the early pre-war years and many thousands went into Russia in 1942 and never returned. The top of the chamber has the full date of 1936, with the correct "S/42" code marking on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension has the early double "eagle/63'' Waffenamt proofs, next to the single eagle firing proof, both of which are also stamped on the top rear portion of the barrel. The right side of the breechblock, also has the single eagle firing proof. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" markings on the safety and extractor. It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips, with a nice matching brown color on both sides and is complete with one early production, all blued, unmarked magazine with the aluminum base that is marked on the bottom of the base, "2/4302n" with an "eagle/63" acceptance proof.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue/straw color
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 6562n
Condition: Very good overall with 60% of the much faded original blue finish with the balance of the finish, (grip straps and right side rail) having browned out completely. There is some actual blue loss on the edges and high spots overall. The various small parts retain 25% of their straw color mostly in the protected areas. The checkered walnut grips are in very good plus condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with only minor wear across the tops of the checkering overall. There are a few minor handling marks with one very small chip on the very upper edge or corner of the left grip under the safety lever. This luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above and the grips which are unnumbered. A very nice example of an original, 1936 dated L luger pistol.
