Navajo Yei Be Chei Polychrome Wool Rug c. 1950's
Featured in this lot is this Navajo Yei Be Chei polychrome wool rug circa 1950's. This is a wonderful example of Navajo Yei or Yei Be Chei (Holy People) rug showing five female figures holding shafts with fletching hanging from their arms and shows different colors to the skin tone of the Yei figures. The Yeibichai weavings are highly individual, therefore, different elements may be found in them. Male Yeis have round heads and Female Yeis have square heads. Other elements included may be: gourds, ruffs of spruce around the neck, fox pelts, moccasins, woven garters or sashes, arrows, corn, clouds, stars, and more. The condition of this rug is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this rug is 60" x 29 1/2".
